Travel diary part 1 : Hampton, Salem, Boston 2012

So here it is finally, my diary about my recent trip to the USA :D Since I realized I had a lot of things to say, I just decided to post it in different parts. So here is part one :D I will post the next ones in the coming days ^^

Day 1 - 07/23/12 : The sound of ocean waves / A night in Witch City

Waking up at 4:30 am, we were all ready to leave for that five days trip to the states that would lead us to visit the beach of Hampton, the city of Boston and, my personal favourite, Salem the Witch City. We arrived around noon in the town of Hampton and the weather was really nice. Nothing could be better than a rest at the beach after all that time spent in the car, even though I am not a fan of beaches xD the beach looked beautiful, the water was a very clear blue and the sand was burning hot. I would have loved to go swim a bit but the water was extremely cold making it impossible for me to go swim as I don't like cold water at all XD. Instead I took a walk around the beach and I must say the scenery was absolutely beautiful. It was quite windy, which was creating a lot of waves in the ocean and that was making a very serene atmosphere, I do love the sound and look of ocean waves. There was a nice spot at the end of the beach with big rocks where my brother, his girlfriend and I had fun taking pictures :P here are some of them.

After that time spent at the beach we headed for our hotel, the Hilton Homewood Suites located in Peabody. It was our second time at this hotel and I must say it is one of the best hotel I have ever been too. The suites are quite spacious and comfortable and the service by the hotel staff is exemplary. The hotel also offers breakfast and supper, and free popsicles for hot days :P here is a pic of me being crazy at the hotel XD

Oh I forgot to mention that while we were on the road, we stopped at the state liquor store to buy some alcohol which is waaaaaay cheaper than anything we could get here in Québec because of the f*****g SAQ. I bought that sexy Captain Morgan's 1.75L botter for only 20 bucks :O

The evening had just begun and it was still too early to go to bed, even though all of us were very tired xD So we decided to go have an evening walk in Witch City, Salem. I was very excited because I love this city so much for its very unique atmosphere. Even though it is founded on a tragic history, it really has a magical atmosphere that is impossible to describe unless you go visit it yourself. That is what makes Salem such a wonderful place. Most of the shops and museums were closed in the evening so we just went there to have a walk and enjoy the scenery of witch city. We walked a part of Witch Trail, a red lined traced on the ground for visitors that, if you decide to follow it, brings you around town to the historic and must-see spots. We started to walk around Salem harbor, the small port of Salem which really is beautiful, with it's major piece, the historical ship named the Friendship of Salem.

We continued our way and arrived at the House of Seven Gables, which was the house of the famous author Nathaniel Hawthorne, who wrote the novel The Scarlet Letter, among many others. I had already visited that house in 2008 and it was quite interesting as it is filled with a lot of secret doors and passageways. I must say the house looked very beautiful at night.

Tilolo2
Around the house we met a new friend, we called him Tilolololo2, here he is :P. we then continued our way and arrived at the main street of Salem. It looked beautiful at night with all those lanterns and light illuminating the picturesque stret. There was also a baroque music concert being held at the moment in the town hall and we could hear the music while walking around town, which was great. We came across a group of people doing a night tour around town and they were guided by a man dressed as in 1692, the year of the witch hysteria in Salem. He seemed to be telling them the history of town, I would have loved doing such a tour haha, but instead we visited by ourselves which was quite enjoyable too. So to finish, here are some pictures of the town at night :)

We would have an early morning on the next day and it was great time for us to go to bed. Tomorrow we would be heading for Boston.
